Get to Work!

Rom 12:11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

Heb 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

I can still remember vividly that very evening in service as I heard the pastor say, “You can call the devil so many things; liar, deceiver, evil, and many more, but no one can ever call the devil “Lazy”! “

My God, it hit me so hard; I pondered where so many of us as believers have learned this carefree attitude to life. Our archenemy doesn’t rest, but yet we feel that’s the best we can do.

The book of Job helps us understand he goes back and forth to the earth; that dude doesn’t rest. He is consistent with his mission as revealed in John 10:10a.

The two passages above show us God’s desire for us is to be consistent in pursuing our mandate. Slothfulness is not a part of God, do away with it. There is no sign of spirituality in being slothful.

The Bible rather encourages us to have faith and patience. In pursuing God’s purpose for your life, you need not just faith but patience.

A lot of us, however, do not understand patients. We think it is putting up with what we don’t want and simply hoping things will change. No, that’s even more slothful.

Patience to God is actually “Insisting on the best He has revealed to you as your destiny while using and enjoying to the maximum where you are at the moment”… It is not settling for the least, but having the fortitude to wait no matter how long it takes to have the best. Now, that’s fervency!

We all have been created and called with a mandate, slothfulness is not an option; it isn’t God-like!

Shalom.
